Quinta do Seixo: A special invitation to the Harvest

Quinta do Seixo: A special invitation to the Harvest

27 September 2023

Douro is a region that breathes tradition, history, and, of course, wine. It's a place where the landscape merges with the vineyards, creating a setting as enchanting as the drink it produces. One of the most exciting experiences you can have is to take part in a grape harvest program, where you don't just learn about the wine production process, you are part of it!

Quinta do Seixo, Sandeman's calling card in the Douro, has created a special harvest program that invites you to enter the magical world of wine. On September 19, 27 and October 4, you'll have the opportunity to take part in this exclusive program which includes a walk through the vineyard and the cutting of grapes, followed by a detailed visit to the winery and the chance to try your hand at treading in the traditional granite presses.

At the end of this stage, there will also be two special tastings, a Douro grape variety tasting and a Sandeman Port wine tasting, which will precede lunch at the SEIXO - By Vasco Coelho Santos restaurant with a special harvest menu and live music to round off a special day.

With a history dating back centuries, Quinta do Seixo breathes authenticity and tradition. Its 100 hectares of vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see, creating a stunning landscape that reflects the soul of the Douro Wine Region. Every corner of the Quinta tells a story, and each vine tells the secret of producing wines of choice.

Quinta do Seixo was distinguished in the top 50 of the World's Best Vineyards 2023, a vote on the best wine tourism experiences worldwide by around 500 wine aficionados including the press, sommeliers and luxury tourism correspondents. Open to the public since 2007, it is one of the most imposing properties in the Douro, offering breathtaking views over the valley and the river that lends it its name.

As well as picking grapes, the harvest program includes a detailed visit to the winery, renovated in 2007, which combines the best of tradition and innovation in a technologically cutting-edge and highly versatile project, where you can learn about the winemaking process, right up to the ageing of the wine in barrels. You can also stroll through centuries-old vineyards, using a traditional planting system, and find dozens of different grape varieties, in a unique and unrepeatable blend that defines Quinta do Seixo.

Reservations must be made by emailing [email protected] and groups are limited to a maximum of 25 participants, so that everyone can fully enjoy the program designed.

Taking part in a Douro harvest program is more than a tourist activity; it's an immersive journey into the world of wine, rooted in history and tradition. By picking grapes, learning from master winemakers and tasting local wines, you don't just experience the magic of the Douro, you become part of it.

"It's an excellent opportunity to experience the culture of wine, appreciate the work of its people and understand the importance of a good harvest. All this in a relaxed and festive atmosphere, as tradition dictates!" says Joana Pais, Head of Hospitality and PR at Sogrape.

In a setting of silence and Douro calm, among terraces and traditions with a century of history, all visitors are invited to experience the hustle and bustle of the harvest, with the river Douro at their feet, at Quinta do Seixo.
